Stephanie Carranza (b. 1977) is a self-taught Mexican-Native American multidisciplinary artist based in France. Carranza’s artistic practice examines the relationships between spirituality, nature, and technology. Via artworks, facilitatory and curatorial projects, Stephanie’s work explores subjects as diverse as biomimicry, conservation, biodiversity, and evolution, as she investigates the human impulse to “improve” the world.
Through lived experience and observation of the erasure of Indigenous culture, Carranza became particularly interested in cultural development in relation to the hypothesis of ‘circular reality’. Taking cultural forms as an engine, she questions concepts of ancient futurisms, parallax senses and the phenomena of signs in terms of its field, movement and indicators of time.
